Awards season is in full swing, and that includes literary awards! Tonight, the finalists for the 58th Nebula Awards will be announced—in a livestreamed event featuring readings from the nominated works. So pull up a chair and a cozy beverage and settle in to find out which works will be finalists for the long-running award, which recognizes excellence in science fiction and fantasy.
At 5 pm Pacific time (8 pm Eastern), you can tune in to Facebook or YouTube as the finalists in all seven Nebula Award categories are announced. SAG-AFTRA performers, including James Patrick Cronin, Vikas Adam, Tova Ott, Wolf Williams, Stephanie Willing, and Emily Woo Zeller, will perform passages from the nominated works.
The Nebula Awards, which have been given since 1965, are voted on by members of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association. There are four Nebula categories (best novel, novella, novelette, and short story); in 2005 the Andre Norton Nebula Award for Middle Grade and Young Adult Fiction was added to the lineup. In 2009 the Ray Bradbury Nebula Award for Outstanding Dramatic Presentation was added, and in 2018 the Nebula Award for Best Game Writing was created. Along with the Nebula Awards, each year SFWA honors one writer with the Damon Knight Grand Master Award; this year’s honoree is Robin McKinley.
Winners of this year’s awards (which honor works published in 2022) will be announced in a ceremony on Sunday, May 14th, during the 2023 Nebula Conference in Anaheim, California. More details are here.
